A cuddle from home-grown rock sensations The Veronicas was just the right medicine yesterday for battered and burnt koala 'Robbie'.

Swathed in blue bandages, patched with stitches and missing an ear – courtesy of his run-in with a car at Redlands six weeks ago – the plucky koala was the figurehead for Australia Zoo's ‘Help Robbie Day' on the Sunshine Coast.

As Wildlife Warriors global ambassadors, The Veronicas – Lisa and Jess Origliasso – dropped by the Zoo to lend a hand to help raise money for the thousands of koalas killed or injured each year in south-east Queensland.

Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital Manager Gail Gipp said the Hospital treats about 900 injured koalas a year.
